JEC Student Machine Shop

Daytime Hours:

Mon: 9-12pm & 2-5pm

Tue: 9-12pm & 1-4pm

Wed: 10-1pm & 2-5pm

Thu: 9-12pm & 2-5pm

Fri: 8-11am & 12-3pm

Daytime shop hours are open to non-class students on a limited basis. Engineering Processes class students have first priority on the equipment. If space or equipment is not being used for class purposes, they may be used by non-Engineering Processes students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Evening Hours:

Starting 9/11/10

W – 5-8 pm and Sat. 11 am – 2 pm

Starting 10/12/10

M, W, TH 5-8 pm / T 4-7 pm / Sat. 11 am – 2 pm

The shop is closed to open hours on Fri. and Sun.

Services

The faculty and staff in the JEC Student Machine Shop will teach you the basics of machine tool operation in addition to welding both of metals and thermoplastics. We continually work with you to help you become better designers.

In addition to the classes we offer our facilities for used for a variety of academic projects. Examples include:

  • Building prototypes for design classes, including class projects for Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
  • Building equipment for Masters and Doctorate degree projects.               

Using the Shop :: What You Need to Know

All students must;

  • comply with the Engineering Processes – Student Shop Laboratory Manual
  • follow the Standard Lab Safety Sheet
  • take the Standard Lab Safety quiz each semister
  • sign in at the door (card swipe with studentID)
  • wear approved safety glasses while in our facilities and clean up whatever mess you create
  • follow instructions of whom ever is in charge or they will be asked to leave

Important: All projects must be in compliance with state and federal law. Due to insurance considerations, we can not allow the modification or fabrication of pressure vessles.
