MILL

MILL: Manufacturing Innovation Learning Laboratory

The MILL provides technical assistance, manufacturing processes, and classes for students interested in gaining a technical appreciation for what it takes to manufacture a prototype or products.

Forge

The Forge: Student Makerspace

The Forge is a student managed facility promoting the development of a maker community at Rensselaer. The facility is open to all members of the Forge Student Club.

JEC machine shop

JEC Student Machine Shop

The Student Machine Shop is a primary resource for ENGR-1300-Engineering Processes class.  In addition to class support the shop is an open project shop.  The shop supervisor and staff in the JEC Student Machine Shop will teach you the basics of machine tool operation and welding metals and thermoplastics.

HTEC

Haas Technical Center / IED / Design Lab

The lab is a fabrication space for Capstone Design Lab and Introduction to Engineering Design classes.  The Haas Technical CNC Machining Center is also located in this lab.

Profab

ProFab

ProFab is a fabrication space for the biomedical engineering department. The Biomedical Engineering Design class and biomedical engineering clubs are able to use the space to fabricate prototypes and new designs. It is located in the Jonsson Engineering Center.

mill demo room

MILL Expansion Demo Room

The MILL Expansion Demo Room, made possible by a grant from Florence J. and Robert I. Werner ('52) and Lois S. and Richard L. Werner ('52), is an additional resource for the MILL housing equipment including a Haas OM2 and Mitutoyo CMM. This equipment is used to support various classes in the School of Engineering.

HDML

Hearst Digital Manufacturing Lab (HDML)

The HDML, made possible by a grant from the Hearst Foundation, is a space where students utilize manufacturing process simulation and virtual reality tools for MILL class projects. The students utilize these tools to simulate manufacturing and assembly success before creating the final physical projects. Tools available in this space include virtual reality (VR), 3D scanning, Moldflow, Octopuz (with VR), Altair, and Mastercam.
